Medicinal Cannabis as a Possible Prevention and Treatment for Bladder Cancer?

Bladder cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer,and although bladder cancer affects men more than women, it can occur at any age.

According to the Canadian Cancer Society…  It was estimated that in 2017:

  • 8,900 Canadians would be diagnosed with bladder cancer.
  • 2,400 Canadians would die from bladder cancer.
  • 6,700 men would be diagnosed with bladder cancer and 1,700 would die from it.
  • 2,200 women would be diagnosed with bladder cancer and 680 would die from it.

Also according to the Canadian Cancer Society, When deciding which treatments to offer for bladder cancer, your healthcare team will consider:

  • stage of the tumour
  • grade of the tumour
  • location of the tumour
  • your overall health

Treatments can include surgery, chemo therapy, radiation and Immunotherapy. None of these treatments come without possible negative side effects .

Is there a safe natural Alternative?

Study shows that cannabis may be a preventative as well as a treatment for bladder cancer.
The study, which looked at 84,170 participants in the California Men’s Health Study, intended to analyze the association between cannabis use and bladder cancer over the course of 16 years.
According to the results of the study conducted by the National Cancer Institute, cannabis smokers are 45% less likely to develop bladder cancer despite smoking tobacco being one of the top risk factors for this condition. The Researchers wrote, “cannabis and cannabinoids may have benefits in treating the symptoms of cancer or the side effects of cancer therapies.” On the other hand, the tobacco smokers in the group had a higher incidence of bladder cancer.
