CBD Showing Promise as an Effective Treatment for Depression and Anxiety?

Mental Health Week is here, and CMHA #mentalhealthweek2019 is May 6th -12th.  This year the focus is on reducing the stigma of #mental illness and promoting good mental health for all Canadians. Also the importance of feeling connected to community, finding healthy ways to cope with stress and enjoying life more! We’re getting ready to #GETLOUD about what mental health really means.

According to Health Canada stats  Mood and anxiety disorders are among the most common types of mental disorders in Canada and have been shown to have a major impact on the daily lives of those affected. In 2013, an estimated 3 million Canadians (11.6%) aged 18 years or older reported that they had a mood and/or anxiety disorder… Mood disorders are characterized by the lowering or elevation of a person’s mood, while anxiety disorders are characterized by excessive and persistent feelings of nervousness, anxiety, and even fear. While some conventional pharmaceutical medications may help they are not without side effects.

Now science is looking at the potential of using Cannabidiol (CBD ) as a possible treatment for depression and anxiety. According to studies Cannabidiol (CBD) could be useful in treating depression, as it appears to have a positive interaction with serotonin receptors in the brain. … CBD has shown promise in initial studies as a treatment for both depression and anxiety without any of the nasty side effects of conventional medications.
